HILLY BEAR MOUNTAIN RIDE - October 7th, 2000

SORRY! You missed it!

October 7th, 2000 - 7 a.m. Tavern On The Green Start
107 miles. Gorgeous Day!

4 Riders (Anthony, Kam Tai, Sergey Zozulevich, and Robert Eberwein)

2 Leaders (Diane Goodwin, Dan Finton)

No flats, 1 near accident, 1 train home

Roads taken: Broadway, Warburton, 9A, 9, 403, 9D, 9W, Perkins Drive, Palisades Ave., Henry Hudson.

Bridges crossed: Broadway, Bear Mountain, and George Washington

The temperature was 45 degrees at 7 a.m. We reached Tarrytown by 9 a.m. (1.5 hours) and lunch by 10:45 a.m. (45 miles). I looked at my cyclometer - 17 avg. speed. We decided to climb to the top of Perkins Drive (my first time). It took approximately 1/2 hour . NOTE: Anyone who has never been to Perkin's Drive - this is a MUST DO! The climb is NOT as difficult as others may claim.

Much thanks given to those who helped scout, lead, and keep a positive attitude. Additional thanks to Pat Carter, Alex Bekkerman and David Knoop (http://www.widgets-bags.com/) who helped scout this ride earlier in the summer. David, thanks for the US Postal tool bag you gave me - I always ride with it - what great materials!

Many, many thanks to Steve Bauman for creating this route - unfortunately for my legs, I chose to change the route home from 303, 501, etc... to strickly 9W.

Mary O'Neil - can you believe those MS signs we hung are still up? It was great to have Anthony (from NYCC) pushing the pace at the front - positive rider - with his new road bike. Kam Tai, thanks for "sharking" around and being as strong as you always are. Sergey and Robert - thanks for the patronage of rides.

Unfortunately - my camera had no film, although I bought film along the way, I discovered a dead battery - too late.! We'll just have to do the ride again! The photos above photos were of scouting.
